Bulk Text Cleaner
Clean messy lists and copied text in seconds. Remove duplicates, blank lines, extra spaces and unwanted formatting — directly in your browser.
Your text is processed locally in this browser. It is not sent to a server by this tool.
How this works
The cleaner reads your text line by line, applies the selected rules, then rebuilds the result. For duplicate removal, the first occurrence is kept and later matching lines are removed.
With case-insensitive duplicate detection enabled, Apple, apple and APPLE are treated as the same line. Sorting is applied after the other selected cleanup operations.
Honest caveat
This tool is designed for ordinary text cleanup. It does not understand the meaning of your content, so an aggressive option such as removing punctuation, digits, Markdown or HTML can intentionally change information.
For important documents, keep the original copy before cleaning. Duplicate detection is text-based: two lines that look different because of punctuation or wording may remain separate unless the relevant cleanup options make them identical.
Tips
Use a preset first
For ordinary lists, Clean List is a good starting point. Use Custom when you need finer control.
Use case-insensitive duplicates carefully
Enable it for keyword lists or names where capitalization should not create separate entries.
Keep your source
Cleaning can remove information by design. Save or copy your original text before applying aggressive rules.
Sort after deduplication
The tool sorts after cleanup, so duplicate removal and whitespace normalization happen first.
Use local processing for private text
For sensitive text, browser-only processing means the tool itself does not need to upload your content.
How this cleaner works
The cleaner reads your text line by line, applies only the rules you have ticked, and then rebuilds the result. For duplicate removal, the first occurrence of a line is kept and later matching lines are removed. Order matters: whitespace is tidied and duplicates are removed first, and sorting, if you tick it, is applied after the other cleanup operations. Everything runs in your browser, so the tool itself does not upload your text to a server.
The Clean List preset used below ticks four rules: trim spaces around each line, remove blank lines, collapse repeated spaces, and remove duplicate lines. The case-insensitive option, Treat A and a as the same line, is off by default, so capital letters still count as different lines until you tick it.
Worked example: a messy list, cleaned twice
Paste this seven-line list, with the Clean List preset and its default settings (7 lines, 12 words, 77 characters):
" Apple Pie", "Banana Bread", a blank line, "Apple Pie" again, "banana bread", "Cherry Tart " and "Banana Bread" again.
- Trimming and collapsing spaces turns " Apple Pie" into "Apple Pie" and "Cherry Tart " into "Cherry Tart".
- Removing blank lines drops the empty line, and removing duplicates drops the second "Apple Pie" and the second "Banana Bread".
- The cleaned result is four lines: Apple Pie, Banana Bread, banana bread, Cherry Tart, with 3 lines removed, 8 words and 47 characters.
- Ticking "Treat A and a as the same line" and cleaning the same list again merges "banana bread" into "Banana Bread", giving three lines, Apple Pie, Banana Bread and Cherry Tart, with 4 lines removed, 6 words and 34 characters.
That last step is the one to watch: case-insensitive matching is handy for keyword lists, but it will merge lines that only differ by capitalization, so check the result before you copy it.
Quick reference: what each cleanup rule does
| Rule | What it removes or changes | Use it when |
|---|---|---|
| Trim spaces around each line | Leading and trailing spaces on every line | Text pasted from documents or spreadsheets |
| Remove blank lines | Empty lines | A list has gaps from copying |
| Collapse repeated spaces | Extra spaces inside a line, leaving one | Spacing is uneven after pasting |
| Remove duplicate lines | Later copies of a line already seen | A list repeats entries |
| Treat A and a as the same line | Case differences when matching duplicates | Capitalization should not split entries |
| Sort lines A to Z or Z to A | Line order, applied after cleanup | You want an alphabetical list |
Keep a copy of your original text before cleaning, especially with the stronger options that remove digits, punctuation, HTML tags or Markdown markers, because cleaning removes information by design and the tool does not judge meaning.
